Early Learning Corps Expands to Mississippi: The Road to Launch

We are proud to announce that Early Learning Corps is expanding to Mississippi next fall! In preparation for the launch, the Mississippi team and partners from Delta Health Alliance traveled to Miami, Florida, to visit Early Learning Corps classrooms and experience the program in action.

A New Chapter Begins

The visit gave Mississippi leaders and partners an inside look at Early Learning Corps’ proven, research-based model. From engaging songs and literacy-building activities to individualized interventions, the visit highlighted how the program helps preschoolers build foundational skills and kindergarten readiness.

The group enjoyed the opportunity to observe tutors, hear from school partners, and connect with the Florida team who recently celebrated 10 years of impact in the Sunshine State.

Helping Mississippi’s Youngest Learners Start Strong

90 percent of a child’s brain development happens before the age of five, and currently in Mississippi, fewer than half of students are meeting benchmarks for kindergarten readiness.

“We’re excited to expand our services in Mississippi to support our youngest learners,” says Quiton Garrett, Executive Director of Mississippi Programs. “Our goal is to ensure more students are set up for success by the time they enter kindergarten.”

The upcoming expansion will place Early Learning Tutors in preschool classrooms that serve children ages three to five. Reading Corps and Math Corps first launched in the state in 2021 and have already helped more than 4,000 local students build their foundational skills.

Get Involved in Mississippi

As our inaugural school year in Mississippi approaches, we’re looking for local people to serve as Early Learning Tutors! If you’re interested in supporting students starting August 2026, visit Join.ReadingandMath.org.
