The Need is Now

Minnesota is experiencing the greatest housing shortage in decades and many people do not have access to stable housing. Increases in both home prices and rents are outpacing wage growth and leaving fewer options for those at median and low income levels. This housing crisis has only been exacerbated by the pandemic.

To address these challenges and help make housing more accessible, we’re proud to announce a new AmeriCorps program — Heading Home Corps! “Heading Home Corps really grew out of the Emergency Response Initiative,” explains Alana Stimes, Director of Program Development. “A cohort of members served last summer supporting unhoused communities, and we began to see incredible possibilities for AmeriCorps members to continue serving in this capacity.”

Heading Home Corps is designed to help people experiencing homelessness overcome barriers and achieve their housing goals. Members will serve as Housing Resource Navigators and provide navigation and support to help participants set goals, create action plans and build both skills and confidence.

Navigators will serve in a full-time capacity (40 hours per week) beginning September 13, 2021.

  • Term of Service: September 13, 2021 – July 30, 2022

  • Stipend: $750 every two weeks

  • Health Insurance: Individual coverage with no monthly premium

  • Education Award: $6,345 for tuition or student loans
